Fixing a Slow Computer

Like many other people, I have at times become very frustrated with my computer. Until very recently though, the problem was getting to the point of being ridiculous. The computer was running so slowly it was painful and it was crashing all the time. In fact compared to how my computer was when I first purchased it I would say that my computer was about eighty percent slower. In fact the computer had become so slow that it made me think of my of my old ZX spectrum in that I used to turn it on and go off and do something else while it loaded up.

Anyway having endured the problems with the computer for several months I finally snapped and decided that I was either going to fix the computer or buy a new one. With computers costing a fair bit I though I should give serious investigation to the idea of fixing the computer. I began, as most people would do, by searching the Internet. Having scanned the web and read around thirty articles I had come up with a list of possible problems and solutions. The first and clearly most obvious solution to the problem was to "De-Frag" the computer's hard drive. I carried this out and it had minimal effect.

The second potential solution to the problem was to remove unwanted spy ware and viruses from the computer. I ran a program called AVG anti virus to do this and it did have an effect on the computer with it running a fair bit better afterwards. The computer was still not as good as it had been though so I moved onto the final potential solution which was scanning the computer for registry errors. Having run a free registry check, the registry checker I used identified around about one hundred and twenty errors. It cost me thirty dollars for the software to fix the errors but it worked quickly and made a significant difference to the speed of my computer. I guess the lesson is that if you are prepared to put the time in, repairing your computer you can save a lot of money.
